A nationwide annual survey of more than 2,600 independent business owners by the Institute for Local Self-Reliance reports that Buy Local initiatives such as LocalShops1 help boost customer traffic, but policymakers need to do more to create a level playing field between small businesses and large corporations.
“The data is inspiring and suggests the future will be bright for America’s entrepreneurs once we change policies that handicap independent businesses,” Jeff Milchen, co-director of the American Independent Business Alliance, wrote in the 2014 report.
